Nirali Parekh

I’m Nirali, a second-year MS student at Stanford in the MS&E (Management Science and Engineering) department, joint-specializing in Data Science and Systems track. I received my Bachelors’ in Computer Science from University of Mumbai in May 2022.

My research interests involves learning the blend of statistical and computational techniques to delve into the dynamics of social networks and human behavior. I seek to examine how machine learning systems interact with our societies and the downstream effects of introducing machine learning to our society. This curiosity has driven my professional experiences, ranging from software engineering to data science roles. I have gained diverse professional experience, ranging from startups such as Apollo to refining my expertise at well-established organizations like Morgan Stanley.

At Stanford, I’m a student researcher at The Society & Algorithms Lab (SOAL) that combines computer science and algorithms with social science and economics in response to two recent trends: the rise of more powerful technology, and an increase in networked social interactions. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed mentors Prof. Jure Leskovec and Prof. Johan Ugander that has spanned projects, courses and as their Teaching Assistant.

My interest in entrepreneurship is a vital aspect of my Stanford experience. As Stanford Business School’s SEED fellow in summer 2023, I immersed myself in Stanford’s mission to empower entrepreneurs in Africa and South Asia, aiding them in transforming their startups into impactful enterprises. Currently, as Stanford Tech Venture Program’s Accel fellow, I am solving real-world problems alongside Accel’s high-growth venture CEOs and peers, gaining invaluable insights into startup strategy, organizational structure, and technical venture scaling.

In moments of leisure, I find solace in reading, dancing, painting, and exploring the great outdoors.

Thank you for getting to know a bit about me!
